Another record high oil price today, how's the Bush economy working out for our country?

The dollar is falling like a stone forcing oil prices to a new record high.Another record high oil price today, how's the Bush economy working out for our country?
wonderful for the oil companies. Watch the next balance sheet of Exxon !

But don't get me wrong. In the end the high oil price will mean that we will all create rather sooner then later alternative sources and become more independant from these centralized powers. Not everything is necessary bad, even if it looks bad at the first glance.

Moreover the economy will have trouble and we have a chance to change !!Another record high oil price today, how's the Bush economy working out for our country?
Bush doesn't set oil prices. And for the first time since Clinton took over, Me and my family are over the poverty line. So yeah, the economy is just fine.
It isn't working, Bush has trashed America
Makes you wonder why the Democrats keep blocking more drilling, refineries, nuclear plants, etc.
Perfectly. Exxon-Mobil profits are expected to increase. What more could we all want.
Poorly. But y'know...? Don't let reality clash with these neo nitwits FANTASIES that our economy is 'strong' and will remain so--regardless of the vulgarities on the ground.

Or the nearest supermarket.
so this is bush's fault? he doesn't own the oil tycoons. the tycoon owners raise the price because they can. thats it.
Well, if you consider I was smart enoguh to cash out of the dotcom bubble 6 months before the crash and invested all of my trust fund money into natural gas and exxon stock, I am riding high. I am also doing great in precious metals, bought almost 100 lbs of gold and 200 of silver back in 94 as an investment, I think gold going from 389 to 999 is a nice return for me.
Yep.

And one of the 'big three' is losing a sale, because I can no longer afford the fuel along with a monthly payment on a new truck.

So, I will continue driving my old truck for a while.
Well i'm doing great! just bought my first house! my husband and i are going to Las Vegas for a week in April, he's getting paid very well in the Air Force thanks to our president, Can't wait to get the check in May, I'm going to assume you didn't cash Bush's first check and your sure not going to cash this one right? for the principle that is?
Could't be happier.
Working great for me! Thanks for asking!
Its working a little better than the Carter years...at least we can buy gas any day we want to....

Who owns Iraq's oil today Sept 29 2006?, What companies, Corporations, LLC or DBA's?

If anyone can compile this info will be of great help to my doctorate tesis.Who owns Iraq's oil today Sept 29 2006?, What companies, Corporations, LLC or DBA's?
The oil belongs to the Iraq people. The oil companies invested a lot of money in the equipment extract and ship the oil. There are companies from almost every civilized country involved. It isn't just us. That is why they other countries didn't want to make the iraqis mad. They need the oil more than the us does. Generally the oil companies pay a fair percentage of the price of the oil as royalties to whoever owns the mineral rights. sometimes investors buy mineral rights from the owners.then the owners are out of the picture.

My friend, trade what you see, not what you think.
If you ';day trade,'; you're going to get burned.

I shaved my legs with baby oil today and now my legs are broken out in a huge rash! help! it burns soooo bad?

It might be razor burn, but in my case it was an allergy to baby oil. Shower really good and get all the oil off. Then, use it on a very small spot. If the rash comes back, you're allergic. If not, use moisturizer.

Baby oil isn't the best thing to shave with, anyway. Use a shave cream. It's a lot nicer to your legs!I shaved my legs with baby oil today and now my legs are broken out in a huge rash! help! it burns soooo bad?
That's why it's called baby oil. It's only to be used on babies.I shaved my legs with baby oil today and now my legs are broken out in a huge rash! help! it burns soooo bad?
I used to get razor burn when I shave, plenty moisturiser will help.

it works, i sware by it.
its razor burn. it will go away in a few days. just dont put lotion on them..ouch! ive done it before =[ =] =/

What is the cheapest way to heat a home furnace with today's energy cost... electric, propane, heating oil?

I am in need of a new furnace and was curious if I should stick with using heating oil or convert to electric or propane?

(just FYI i am aware wood and coal alternatives are cheap, but i am looking for something less maintained)What is the cheapest way to heat a home furnace with today's energy cost... electric, propane, heating oil?
I'm a fuel salesperson in Ontario Canada. Right now for every dollar you spend heating with electricity, you would spend $1.18 to heat with oil, $0.84 to heat with propane, and $0.54 to heat with natural gas. These numbers are for this region of Canada, but I would think the ratios, if not the actual numbers would be pretty close for much of North America.

Edit: Oil and propane prices have dropped in recent days considerably! So much so that I will revise my numbers above to the following. Oil $1.07 Propane $0.77. I don't think we are going to see heating prices as high as last winter. I'm telling my customers to just buy fuel at market price and not to lock in this year. I think they will be better off. My customers that were getting locked in pricing of $0.72 cents per litre 10-14 days ago would now be spending only $0.61 per litre...I think I'll be giving out some credits! :^)What is the cheapest way to heat a home furnace with today's energy cost... electric, propane, heating oil?
natural gas is the lowest price per btu if heat. then propane, oil and last electricity. but you didnt mention solar heat... just open the shades when the sun is shinning.. of course this only works during the day.
if you don';t have natural gas, then propane would be cheaper.

I heard on the Today Show that oil prices have dropped by $2 per barrel?

Will we see prices go down at the pump as well?I heard on the Today Show that oil prices have dropped by $2 per barrel?
Nope. Price of a barrel has gone up over $120 in a very short time. A $2.00 per barrel drop in price today is negligable and will likely be reversed tomorrow.

Most of the refineries buy oil for months in advance. So day to day price fluctuations won't be seen at the gasoline pump.I heard on the Today Show that oil prices have dropped by $2 per barrel?
Well, the Today Show is misleading. Prices are fluctuating, probably because of the eathquake in China. They went up early and corrected themselves, so they are actually pretty much the same and trading is still going on. Don't expect prices to go down any time soon. There are supply problems and we might see crude go up to $150 a barrel. We need to drill and find alternative fuels.

EDIT: I just checked crude prices and they are up about $1.50. Iran is rumored to be talking about cutting production. Prices will continue to go up.
Maybe, but not by much. I'd say about 2-5 cents per gallon or so, I'll be surprised if it goes down at all actually.

I was looking at a gasbuddy.com price chart and for my area, the price of gas stayed at 115.9 cents per litre (I live in Saskatchewan, Canada) despite the price of crude falling $4 and going back up two days later.
it might go down but we'd be talking about a difference of cents probably. and then it'll go right back. seems to be the theme.

What is the best automotive synthetic motor oil in the world today?

i drive 1000 mpweek all highway 75 mph avg......how often should this oil be changed? What is the best automotive synthetic motor oil in the world today?
synthetics are highly over-rated. Especially since the induction of GF-4 oil and in about 2009 GF-5 which might have to be semi-synthetic. Use a good quality conventional oil and you will be amazed on how many miles you can get out of an engine if maintained correctly. Change it between 3000 and 5000 miles depending on if you do highway or city driving. 5000 for highway and 3000 for city. The only major difference between synthetics and conventional is that synthetics have absolutely no impurities since it is man made. Conventional oil is about 99.9% free of impurities. Do what you want but I own 3 quick lubes and from what I have seen in the last 18 years it really doesn't matter what type of oil you use just as long as you change it on time. The type of driving yo are doing is the absolute best thing for the engine it runs at a constant temp and speed. What is the best automotive synthetic motor oil in the world today?
The best synthetic motor oil is Mobil. Change it every 3000 to 5000 miles depending how many miles on your car. Or check it each time you fill up. When it gets to look like chocolate syrup, change it.

But in you case regular oil is ok to use
3000 miles just like always, and if you are driving that much don't waste money on a synthetic. Regular 10w-30 is just fine. Synthetics have a longer life than regular oil, but in your case that wont matter.
    Mobile 1!!

    I change every 7K
every 3000 miles and I would use castrol. I would also add injection cleaner every third tank of gas if you can afford it. I used to work for a oilfield service company and I would put, on average, 60,000 mpy.
Mobil -1...Watch synthetic oils they may be good for a few extra miles. Look at your oil ,when you do a change, it will look dirty and burnt. In your case, once a month.
i own a repair shop,,and right now Mobil One is the best there is i use it all the time and recommend it to everyone you only change it every 7500 miles, and i usually go 8 on it,and its still in good shape,,good luck i hope this help,s.
I recommend, AMSOIL, with a WIX filter. Very good in my fleet service and changed every 15,000 miles even though thet say every 25,000. Oil always as clean as wesson (cooking oil) and even after driving not even hot. Wix filters have more internal filtering area.

Today, I purchased a oil painting of Renoir, it had his name on it however reprints do not have names right?

I am trying to figure out how authentic/valuable this oil painting is. I was in the computer, I noticed that reprints did not have his name on it.Today, I purchased a oil painting of Renoir, it had his name on it however reprints do not have names right?
A photographically-reproduced painting is going to photographically reproduce the signature as well.

If an artist or publisher makes a limited edition from a painting, they will often have the original signature edited out of the print image. That's because they're going to sign and number the edition, and they don't want the visual distraction of two signatures. But if they're giclee editions, rather than original print methods such as etching, silkscreen, or lithography, they're not really worth much even with an actual signature. Particularly with the edition sizes they try to pass off as ';limited'; these days.

And you should be aware that today's technology allows a digital reproduction right onto canvas, brushstroke effects and all.Today, I purchased a oil painting of Renoir, it had his name on it however reprints do not have names right?
u purchased a print of renoir not the original obviously
Renoir? Stan Renoir or Hackensack, NJ?
Reprints do very often have names on them.

Look and see if you notice any texture to the painting, like brushstrokes. Brushtrokes are found on reprints as well, but if it is smooth then it is definitely a reprint.
Well I hope you didn't pay very much, because it's probably a scam. It would be very unlikely to find any painting by a well known old master like Renoir being sold for less that a million dollars, and through the internet? That is highly dubious.
    Clones and fakes do...

Just teasing. I'd get it appraised to find the actual value.
Look i'm so sorry to spoil your purchase. But it is not at all likely that you purchased an oil painting by Renoir- they cost a lot of money. e.g. Stephen A. Wynn, casino owner and art collector, bought Renoir's painting, ';In the Roses (Madame L茅on Clapisson),'; for $23.5 million in 2003

It is much more likely that you purchased a photographic pint produced by ultra-sophisticated processes which give a very fine quality image. It is probably worth exactly what you paid for it.

And yes, his signature would be on the original picture from which the reproduction was taken. But, If you still think it is genuine, then go to an art gallery/dealer quick and get an evaluation.

  • What is the worst and best Diesel oil for Diesel pickup trucks today?

People say that Coastal Diesel Oils are the worst and Shell Rotella T is the best. My friend has 251,000 miles in his Ford F-250 Diesel; he's been using cheap Coastal Diesel oil since its birth and the truck is running fine.

What are your experiences? What is the worst and best Diesel oil for Diesel pickup trucks today?
Most are ok - I always used Rotella but I believe any straight 30 diesel is ok - the important thing is the filter. What is the worst and best Diesel oil for Diesel pickup trucks today?
I would say rotella. I think depends on your area. I dont know where to buy coastal around here. most oils are made to the same specs anyway, look on the back for the seal. But alot of people like me stick with a proven name.
Rotella T certainly is good, as are most name brand oils. Even a lower priced brand such as Coastal has to pass certain criteria. As long as the vehicle manufacturer's guidelines are followed in regards to oil viscosity, ratings, and change intervals, it really doesn't matter which brand is used.

With that said, I usually use Rotella T 15w-40. I have used Coastal, Citgo, Walmart's Universal 15w-40, and Traveller (from Tractor Supply) with no ill effect.
Biodiesels are the best. That isnt an opinion. Any bio take ur pick.

Brought my car in for a oil change today and the mechanic told me that I had two leaks.?

One in the transmission, one in the engine. He says that for the transmission the part needed for the repair is a filter joint. Would someone kindly tell me what this is? The part and oil is 86 dollars...labour 166..is this reasonable? What could cause this to leak? Second he said the engine is leaking oil somewhere too. He will clean the engine and find the leak. How could these two things happened at the same time??? Is my engine finished?

Also, didn't have a oil change done for a few months (6), I know I should have but whats done is done. Learned my lesson. Could this have something to do with the leaks?Brought my car in for a oil change today and the mechanic told me that I had two leaks.?
If you took your car in for an oil change and didn't ask the mechanic to change the transmission filter, what was he doing in the transmission? If he didn't really go into the transmission to change the oil and filter, then he is blowing you some smoke(maybe from the filter joint). He would have no way of knowing anything that was going on in the transmission. If he did drop the transmission pan then he could have found a bad filter seal.

You have to know exactly what he did and why.

For the engine leak you need another opinion. Depends where it is coming from and how bad it is. If your car dirties the parking lot with big drops or pools of oil you really need to find and repair the leak, now! At 70,000 K you might have a few seeps from valve cover and or engine oil pan gaskets. That wouldn't be unusual or much to worry about. I am assuming he does mean the engine pre se and not the power steering hoses or pump. Just keep your engine clean and an eye on the leak source. If it becomes more than a seep, get the seal replaced.

Parts and labor are maybe a little on the ';high'; side but tolerable.Brought my car in for a oil change today and the mechanic told me that I had two leaks.?
No offense at all, but i think your mechanic is trying to rip you off. especially if you are a chic, no assumptions. ok, what you need to think about is this, if you really had two leaks, then they would have caused a problem already. now, if your car is indeed leaking, then i suggest shopping around, and asking someone about it that you know, like a relative. as for the price it seems about average, nothing too much. but my advise is be careful. by the way, i do my own maintenance on cars and i havent heard of a filter joint, but upon research this is what i found for you:The recommended maintenance intervals for CV joints and boots vary from one automaker to another. While some OEs recommend inspection at each oil change, other makers don't mention it in their schedules until the 30,000-mile mark. But all agree that inspection should be done on a regular basis.

Since damaged or defective boots are the most common cause of CV joint failure, inspection should be done each time a vehicle is on a lift for service. These boots are designed to hold grease in and keep dirt and water out. If grease is thrown out of a CV joint by axle rotation, the joint will fail prematurely. Dirt entering the joint, meanwhile, will cause erosion, while water will result in rust and corrosion. Always inspect the boot pleats for minor cracks and rips. These tears will quickly become larger because of the flexing action of the rubber.
A filter joint may be where two halves come together with a gasket or seal in between.

The oil is the blood of your engine. It has to be kept clean. Oil changes should be made every 3000 miles, even though the book may say 5000 or more. (Yes your car will last longer)

As engines age they start to leak a little. This is normal and I wouldn't worry. If you start noticing a huge puddle under your car you'd better get it fixed quick.
Take it somewhere else... You may be the victim of a scam... No, you not having the oil changed for 6 mths did not have anything to do with it..depends also on how many miles are on the vehicle.. ??? at your last oil change, was there any mention of the current needed repairs?? if not, and this isnt the place you took it to 6 mths ago, go back to that place.. see what they say.. has your transmission been giving you probs.. if it is a stick, the prob would be the inability to put in gear, if automatic, when you shift to drive, does it take a min to kick into gear? I havent heard of the transmission filter joint... thats new to me-= there is a thing called the transmission filter.. The leaks on transmission could be transmission pan gasket, transmission cooler line or the transmission seal..depending on the kind of car... saturn has the external tranny filter.. so that could be a leaking area. The oil leak- could be anything.. the best thing to do is get a second opinion by a trusted person...
    Get a second opinion.
I have never heard of a filter joint for a transmission the oil filter may have a seal of sorts, but I have never heard of transmission joints find out for sure what is leaking

What is the BEST auto OIL in the market today?

synthetic or not. and WHY do you think is the best. ';Do you have any real evidence of this? '; And how often do yo change your OIL. thanksWhat is the BEST auto OIL in the market today?
you asked essentially an open ended question.

and it's all a matter of opinion as well.

My personal favorite is Redline. I use the 10w30.

I change my oil every 17,000 miles. (redline is rated to go 21,000 before it needs to be changed) But I change my oil filter every 5000 miles.

I know the REdline will go the distance, but an oil filter can only hold so much crud. so I change the filter and put another quart of redline in.

It saves me a lot of money and I've had no problems for 210,000 miles on my Ford pickup.

as for evidence.. the only thing I can offer is in autoshop class back in 1992, we decided to test Redline motor oil for ourselves because a lot of guys in the class were bragging about it.

So one guy's dad donated his 1979 el camino with a 302 5.0L v8, it was worn out and bascially needed a rebuild. So the project was that we rebuilt the engine, and put castrol 10w30 conventional oil in for break in. The guy drove it regularly and at 2500 miles we changed it over to redline 10w30 and an AC Delco oil filter.

We tore the engine down and mic'd out the bearings and cam bores and cylinder bores as well as the pistons. we documented it, put the engine back together.

and we decided as a class that we would keep in touch and come back for teardowns and inspections. We also decided to have this el camino on the road for 2 years running JUST redline oil and AC Delco filters. We also decided that the oil will not be changed. We simply would change the oil filter every 4000 miles.

Ok, the guy who's dad donated the car did the filter changing and oil top offs. everything he did was documented.

At 2 years most of us got back together at the shop and we drained the oil and took samples to send it to a lab, and cut open the last oil filter. The oil was dark, but not sludgy, that's normal. it didn't have that gasoline smell so it wasn't worn out.

the oil filter looked regular, nothing special about it, no metal filings that we could see.

we tore the engine down, got our specs out and re-mic'd the bearings and cam, cylinder bores and pistons. the difference was essentially nothing. the digital micrometers have a +- of like .004';. So the change was literally nothing.

there was no sludge in the oil pan , the pickup screen was clean, the inside of the engine that we looked at was clean. the cylinders themselves looked almost new.

The car had racked up about 23,000 miles on the redline oil.

So to me.. the redline did it's job and then some.

The main advantage to Redline oils are.. they do NOT have the SAE oil ratings on their bottles. Redline oils far exceed the SAE ratings as required by manufacturers. They produce a high quality product.

I know royal purple has been getting a lot of headlines and hoopla. But there was no royal purple back then, and I'm sticking with what I know and I've seen work.

I have the old mechanic myth mentality.. stick with 1 oil brand and never change. As for filters.. I don't follow that myth. I only use Wix or purolator. What is the BEST auto OIL in the market today?
There are only 2 oils in my vocabulary. Mobil One, and ELF. Both are race tested and make customized products for each car-makers specifications. They are both synthetic oils. My advice to everyone is, don't even bother with bulk or regular dino oils, They simply cause sludge and varnish, it only depends when. Many modern engines are very vulnerable to sludge formation, esp Chrysler. These listed oils reduce or eliminate varnish altogether, keep things clean, and perpetually wash things as you drive. No oil vapor condensation. No ash deposits! Virtually, No engine wear. I got into the habit of only changing it when it looks dark or thick. They protect expensive engine sensors and produce more power and economy. Other oils worth considering are Pennzoil (but only when the container lists EXACTLY which cars it was designed for use in), SOME Castrol products, Amzoil, and many German oils, like Pentosin, or Lubro-Moly. Royal Purple has absolutely NO ratings listed on it's products. I have de-sludged and power tuned many engines from all manufacturers. I have seen the damage that ';wax reduction'; oils do. NOT FOR ME!!!! I want an oil that keeps the inside of the engine unwaxed, unvarnished, and clean as showroom. Forget ';v'; and ';QS'; totally. Virtually no engine wear from highly tauted synthetic oils. Mobil One is REQUIRED in many cars. It voids the warranty if NOT used.SEE???
Mobil 1 Synthetic, I've been using synthetics for years and every car I've sued it in (and kept for a long time) has lasted for over 250,000 miles without having any engine problems.

Every synthetic oil producer has tests showing that their synthetic oil is the best against other synthetic oils (of course they would rate their oil as the best). In better than 90% of the tests, Mobil 1 comes in second against rivals oil tests. Kind of tells you, that for the price, Mobil 1 synthetic oil is top of the line.

I used to have to rebuild the ';top end'; of my racing motor on a regular schedule (about every couple months of racing), when I started running it on a synthetic oil, I could go for over a year and the tear down still showed that the parts were still within blueprint value.
I have used Castrol GTX oil for as long as I can remember and I have never had an oil related engine concern, let alone an engine failure.

I generally keep my vehicles for well over 100,000 miles and I change the oil, for the most part, every 5000 or so miles.
depends on who you ask, but the modern tight tolerance engines can last longest on synthetic if changed every 3,000 - 5,000 miles because of the more uniform and smaller molecule size of this oil. Check out consumer reports, popular mechanics etc for evidence.

Should Obama replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve today with domestic crude oil?

Prices are low for the time being, now is the time to buy oil cheap while we can, especially if its from domestic suppliers that are shutting operations down because the price is so low. It would immediately stimulate the economy without depending on banks to turn loose of some of their stimulus money.

Or should Obama allow the domestic oil industry to continue to shrivel and spend the same money on undefined ';green technologies'; whose economic benefit is years off?Should Obama replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve today with domestic crude oil?
Thats a real good idea. That's why Obama and Pelosi wont do it.

PS DUDE! your avatar is awesome and it made me fall out of my chair laughing.Should Obama replenish the Strategic Petroleum Reserve today with domestic crude oil?
Those considerations are IMO trivial. We must spend money on oil replacements. Our economy, our security, and the environment depend on it.
Oil is an effective commodity with daily massive consumption. Further, any doubling of orders by the largest consumer to corner the market will simply drive up the price unnecessarily.
What makes you think it is not being replenished?

Why is the airline stock is going up today even the oil goes up to the record high?

like continental airlines, with the oil price of $126.00 a barrel.

$17.38/share is not a good price ................ maybe its only

    worth about $12.50 - 15.00 a share. i think hedge fund people

is holding this in this price ........ but watch out they will dump the price once they have a chance. ..... they will sell it.Why is the airline stock is going up today even the oil goes up to the record high?
Well airline stocks don't necessarly track the price of oil tick for tick every day, although they are highly dependent on fuel costs. They've all been hammered endlessly, so maybe it's just a little relief rally for now. Or it could be merger talk, I've heard rumors of Northwest and Delta merging together.

All that being said they're still pretty bad investments in my opinion. Why is the airline stock is going up today even the oil goes up to the record high?
People invest in stocks to make profit dear. When the prices go up in summer the huge rush or vacation bonanza is high and then they sell it cos its not wise to wait for the price to go done. Then in Christmas time the stocks are between so they buy them then, the demand is high again. SO they can make double profit when in summer. ITS business.
because the price of oil is expected to take a dive from the current levels ...but if the price keeps going higher then the airlines will sink...the airlines have a threshold of something like $130....everytime that threshold is met the sector drops and the stock price reflex the next threshold...that way they dont move with the tick of the price of oil
If the bad news is not as bad as predicted, the stock price will rise. This was seen with finance companies announceing massive losses from sub-prime, but the share price goes up because the predicted loss greater than actual.
I like Hawaiian Holdings Inc which owns Hawaiian Air

bought some a few weeks back at 6.00, to me it's a shot

I think the upside potential is greater than the downside risk

How could the aboundance of oil/gasoline consumption today affect tht demand for cars in the future?

how could the abundance of oil/gasoline comsuption today affect the demand for cars, airline tickets, books about sewing dress, bicycles. How could the aboundance of oil/gasoline consumption today affect tht demand for cars in the future?
Very much so on cars. The world (excluding the US) mandate a high fuel efficiency rating on all cars. This will only continue to rise to 70 miles per gallon and will change the shape and materials vehicles are made from.

The rest of the economy is dependent on oil in one form or another. Until more biologically derived plastics or packing is developed, we're tied to oil.

Unless we can develop vehicles that can haul as much and travel as far as trucks, we will have a serious slowdown in the economy since we can't move goods from port to market in a cheap and efficient manner.

As far as airline tickets, those will be more expensive as oil gets harder to find and more expensive. I can see us traveling in airships again! How could the aboundance of oil/gasoline consumption today affect tht demand for cars in the future?
Decrease in the next 30 years of heavy gas consuming vehicles and most definitely a high increase in oil prices that will drive to an alternative dependency.
I believe that oil will only affect the demand for cars in the short run. In the long run, capitalism will find a solution.

While I believe that we are most likely nearing the peak of our oil production, I think the government is only hurting future development by artificially raising fuel standards. People will start to vote with their dollars towards PHEVs, fuel cell vehicles, and biofuels once it becomes economically feasible. I am incredibly bullish on the prospect of some of these future technologies.

So, to give a brief answer.. In the short run, I believe that automakers may see a hiccup in the market. However, in the long run people will always buy cars.. what powers them might just change pretty dramatically.

  • Is it possible that some of the oil/petroleum we use today comes from human material?

';Most geologists believe that petroleum was derived from plant and animal material deposited in enormous quantities in sedimentary beds millions of years ago.'; That's from the Encyclopedia Americana.... but if humans or at least ';animals'; (or even apes) similar to humans existed millions of years ago, could their remains be part of the petroleum/crude oil we use today? Answers from geologists, environmentalists or any other professional in the field are highly appreciated as well as rational theories. Is it possible that some of the oil/petroleum we use today comes from human material?
No, not humans, It takes not just millions but hundreds of millions of years for organic material to turn to oil. But in the sense that early mammals living at the time of the dinosaurs are our ';ancestors';, you could be right. Is it possible that some of the oil/petroleum we use today comes from human material?
No. Almost all of our petroleum reserves are from the Mesozoic (or the ';age of the dinosaurs';). About 5% of the petroleum reserves we use today were formed in the Cenozoic (since the dinosaurs died out), but the newest ones I've heard of were formed in the Eocene, so about 33 million years ago at the latest (I might be wrong about that part though).

Anyways, technically some petroleum is derived from human ancestors, but they'd be ancestors that existed LONG before the great apes.

If we can stop using oil today, what will we replace it with?

Porn.If we can stop using oil today, what will we replace it with?
One foot in front of the other. Might help the obese problem we now have in this country. If we can stop using oil today, what will we replace it with?
Many alternative fuels are being used today in place of fossil fuels like oil. Biofuels are alcohols, ethers, esters, and other chemicals made from cellulosic biomass such as herbaceous and woody plants, agricultural and forestry residues, and a large portion of municipal solid and industrial waste. The term biofuels can refer to fuels for electricity and fuels for transportation. The U.S. Department of Energy classifies the following fuels as ';alternative'; to gasoline.

Biodiesel (mono alkyl esters) is a cleaner-burning diesel replacement fuel made from natural, renewable sources such as vegetable oils. Just like petroleum diesel, biodiesel operates in combustion-ignition engines. Essentially no engine modifications are required, and biodiesel maintains the payload capacity and range of diesel.

Electricity used to power vehicles is commonly provided by batteries, but fuel cells are also being explored. Batteries are energy storage devices, but unlike batteries, fuel cells convert chemical energy to electricity.

Ethanol (ethyl alcohol, grain alcohol, EtOH) is a clear, colorless liquid with a characteristic, agreeable odor. Ethanol made from cellulosic biomass materials instead of traditional feedstocks (starch crops) is called bioethanol.

Hydrogen (H2) Although hydrogen can fuel an engine directly, or serve as a fuel additive, the current emphasis is on the use of hydrogen to supply fuel cells, which power electric vehicles. Hydrogen has also been blended with methane to form a fuel called Hythane.

Methanol (CH3OH) is an alcohol fuel. Today most of the world's methanol is produced by a process using natural gas as a feedstock. The alternative methanol fuel currently being used is M-85. In the future, neat methanol, or M-100, may also be used. Methanol is also made into an ether, MTBE, which is blended with gasoline to enhance octane and to create oxygenated gasoline.

Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons鈥攎ainly methane (CH4)鈥攁nd is produced either from gas wells or in conjunction with crude oil production. The interest for natural gas as an alternative fuel stems mainly from its clean burning qualities, its domestic resource base, and its commercial availability to end-users. Because of the gaseous nature of this fuel, it must be stored onboard a vehicle in either a compressed gaseous state (CNG) or in a liquefied state (LNG).

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consists mainly of propane, propylene, butane, and butylene in various mixtures. However, for all fuels in the United States, the mixture is mainly propane. It is produced as a by-product of natural gas processing and petroleum refining. The components of LPG are gases at normal temperatures and pressures.

P-Series Pure Energy Corporation's P-series fuels are blends of ethanol, methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF), and pentanes plus, with butane added for blends that would be used in severe cold-weather conditions to meet cold start requirements. It is anticipated that both the ethanol and the MTHF will be derived from renewable resources, such as waste cellulosic biomass that can be derived from waste paper, agricultural waste and urban/industrial wood waste.

Solar energy technologies use sunlight to warm and light homes, heat water, and generate electricity. Some research has gone in to evaluating how solar energy may be used to power vehicles; however, the long term possibility of operating a vehicle on solar power alone is very slim. Solar power may be used to run certain auxiliary systems in the vehicle.
Reality is, we can;t stop using oil today. Our entire infrastructure is dependent on oil - transportation, manufacturing, raw material in many products, heating our homes and so fourth.

What we eventually replace it with is the million dollar question. That's why we hear so much about alternative energy research.

There is no viable, complete answer as yet, only stop gap measures and minor things like corn ethanol.
Seriously, we need to get back to Nuclear. The left wing nuts did all they could to kill off all the plant developments decades ago. That would save thousands of tons of coal and MILLIONS of gallons of oil every day in the US.

Also, bio-fuels are the way to go. But, the left wing nuts wont let us build any more refineries, not even for that.

    So, thats that.
There is nothing to replace it with. You can lessen the need slightly at great cost, but you cannot replace it.
    Hydrogen and nuclear power
Id be using my legs running with that one song *Hes a maaaaniacc maaaaaniac in Mo-tion!*

either that or you'll catch me on horseback
How about good old fashioned walking and bicycling like much of the rest of the world?
    Absolute poverty
It is no secret that we are very dependent on oil but stopping cold turkey is something that cannot be done. I think that the dependence on oil can be phased out over a period of time but replacing it with other natural resources such as vegetable oils , use of wind turbine to produce electricity, and producing more energy efficient appliances, greener cars and longer lasting products will aide the transition from oil. There needs to be more research done on a large scale to produce an alternative the current oil crisis.
Popeye's %26amp; Long John Silver's grease pit refuse.

There are some people that would believe it...If they believe Obama's crap, they'll believe anything!

Bio fuels are great for producers (Corn farmers for the Obama-minded) but the cost of beef SKYROCKETS due to the rising cost of cattle feed (the cows we eat come from feed lots Obama people, not 25,000 acre farms in Wyoming). The cost of all other corn dependant products rises as well, thus creating a new poverty level, an increase in demand for food subsidies, and an increased burden to the consumer twice...once in the grocery store and twice a month on payday when the fed tax % increases.
Nothing is available yet but we need to spend as much as possible on research to plug the gap. Oil has far to many other uses for us to think about burning it, like plastics , pharmaceuticals. etc. and don't forget an alternative would let the west get out of the Middle East and Putins control
Hot air ! No shortage of that around
Gas from the democrats in congress. I get the sense that Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Al Gore and Harry Reid could pretty much power a New York rush hour for the next 50 years.
I'll replace it with carbohydrates, which fuel my legs. I own a bike.
Nuclear power, hydrothermal, wave energy, wind energy, mass transportation like high speed rail, and electric vehicles.

Oil should be saved for fertilizer, mediciines, and plastics.

The idea of everyones grandmother fueling her car with hydrogen is just crazy.
Rubber.... like on the soles of your shoes.

Horses... because our machinery will stop.

Wood... because we'll need to make catapaults to drive back the forces of invaders since our mechanized army will be rendered useless.

Wax.... because without high-energy fossil fuels, we can't even light our lights.... Candle anyone?

Cloth.... because we'll have to go back to sails on our ships.
mercedes will be releasing hydrogen car. enjoy!

    http://www.reuters.com/article/environme鈥?/a>
Ethanol fuel uses cheap sugar cane, mainly bagasse (cane-waste) for process heat and power, and modern equipment, and provides a ~22% ethanol blend used nationwide, plus 100% hydrous ethanol for four million cars. The Brazilian ethanol program provided nearly 700,000 jobs in 2003, and cut 1975鈥?002 oil imports by a cumulative undiscounted total of US$50 billion.

I was driving today and lost oil pressure and my steering and acceleration died. HELP!!?

I turned off the car when I pulled over and turned it back on and I regained oil pressure and the car was okay, what gives? It is a Pontiac Bonneville 1994. Great car until now! I haven't hit anything just in case you wanted to know.I was driving today and lost oil pressure and my steering and acceleration died. HELP!!?
Check your oil level, Some cars will shut off the fuel pump if it looses oil pressure to prevent damage. Have the sending unit checked it could just be a loose wireI was driving today and lost oil pressure and my steering and acceleration died. HELP!!?
it seems like a bad wire or sending unit
Sounds like the car shut off. When the engine quits you will lose acceleration and power steering.

I have had that happen in my Bonneville, it is so quiet you can hardly tell when it is running.

If it is just the oil pressure gage, it may be the pressure sender. Easy to change I have put in one before.

What is the condition of the Iraqi oil fields as of today?

Prior to the invasion and subsequent occupation, they were in a state of disrepair and lacking spare parts. Has the US recouped even a dent of Iraqi oil revenue as ';payment'; for our having ';liberated'; (ha) and ';freed'; (ha again) these people? Where is Iraqi oil being funneled to? Kuwait? What is the condition of the Iraqi oil fields as of today?
CNN and FOX ran something a week or so ago saying that the Iraqi government passed a new oil bill. 75% of the oilfields are being opened up to foreign development(meaning American corporations).

This war wasn't about oil at all. And I've got beachfront property in Arizona. What is the condition of the Iraqi oil fields as of today?
It's safe in the hands of the DoD.
who cares? my oil comes from Texas.

why aren't you loyal to your President? he has done nothing but work hard for the people? if it were'nt for him, all them iraqi's would be over here blowing everything up. he's our Saviour. our God. he should be made a Saint.

I brought my car in for an oil change today, and the mechanic told me that the coolant?

is brown..He said that there is green antifreeze and red antifreeze and whoever filled it last might have mixed them...

Is this possible?? Would it be brown? What else could cause this?I brought my car in for an oil change today, and the mechanic told me that the coolant?
Rust in system. Change antifreeze and oil change places. A good shop would identify problem and then correct it with you approval. Red and green do make brown, in Art.I brought my car in for an oil change today, and the mechanic told me that the coolant?
It depends on the car year and model. The older cars use green antifreeze, newer such as GM and Chrysler may use orange coolant. Depending on the make of the vehicle, your car may need red coolant. If it is brown, you may need a coolant system flush. Coolant should be changed every 3-5 years.
It's no big deal. He's trying to get a coolant change out of you and probably $300-400 to do a job you could do for $5.

Do modern oil paints today still contain lead?

I'm curious because my brother gave me his old paint kit from the early 90s and one of the tubes of paint, a titanium white Winsor and Newton water mixable oil paint, contains a warning: Contains Lead! and a detailed description about prolonged exposure to lead

The other tubes don't contain the warning label so I'm assuming their safe.Do modern oil paints today still contain lead?
Most don't today ,but there are a couple that still do including Titanium white.

Natural pigments such as lead, zinc, titanium, cadmium, sienna, and umber, as well as synthetic pigments have been used in bringing color to the oil paints. A good number of these are toxic (e.g. lead carbonate, cobalt, cadmium).

  • What's stopping OPEC from charging $1000/barrel for oil today?

Or maybe they should just charge $10,000/barrel for oil ...What's stopping OPEC from charging $1000/barrel for oil today?
No one will buy it then and OPEC will then have no revenues. Interesting question/implications thoughWhat's stopping OPEC from charging $1000/barrel for oil today?
It would bring down the economy of the west, and them right along with it (they rely on the west for a lot of products, and the revenue of the oil).
    Abdallah, that is, effectively today.
The sequel to ';The Inconvenient Truth'; has not been released yet.
Err... Iran havnt been invaded yet.
OPEC should worry... because the higher the price of oil they charge, the more people will look for an alternative source to keep going. If thats happen, goodbye OPEC and middle east! A new industrial revolution is on the horizon right now.
The investors are currently raising prices...They don't need to do anything'

    Yea capitalism
    Look up the term ';W88';.
The fact that we can take it from our own reserves cheaper. Which is the only reason we get it from them in the first place. They won't sell them selves out of a market..
Nations would cut back on their usage. As with drug addicts, their is a threshold of costs that would trigger many to go into rehab.
Because there is no buyer for it. You could charge a million a barrel, but there has to be someone on the other side willing to pay for it. It will only be when Americans start to use considerably less gasoline by their own choosing that prices will go down.

How much did oil cost in 2000? How much does oil cost today?

About $32 per barrel at the end of 2000, its $106 today.

Mission accomplished huh George and Dick. How much did oil cost in 2000? How much does oil cost today?
Around $30 a barrel, and now it's over $105. George Bush's plan worked Yazaaaaaa!

Edit: We invaded Iraq for future oil resources when supplies in Saudi Arabia and at home start running out. High oil prices are a good thing for Bush's buddies, they can make more money off of the rest of us.How much did oil cost in 2000? How much does oil cost today?
It's hard to believe that only 7 or 8 years ago was the good old days. Isn't it?

btw: Oil hit a record closing today of $110.02 per barrel.
If I recall it got up to about $30/barrel before falling. It is now somewhere in the neighborhood of $109/barrel..
    like 27 - 28 dollars in 2000

going up through 110 dollars as we speak.

Wifeofavetposer: because the oil was already making it on to the market at submarket prices via oil for food, there has been no net increase in supply as a result of whatever you consider the US action in Iraq (liberation, illegal war, whatever). No increase in supply means no decrease in price all others things remaining equal. In actuality though all other things have not remained equal. The price has risen because of a lot things including but not limited to:

the decline of the dollar (opec sells oil in US dollars)

Iraq oil output has actually decreased as a result of US action

Demand for oil has risen significantly due to increased economic activity expecially in asia

Instability in the middle east - some would suggest that this instability was at least in part brought on by US actions in Iraq - that is another discussion. Certainly some of the instability is brought on by the machinations of Iran's president and probably some by shaky political situations in many countries in the region.
How much did it cost in 1979 and 1980 compared to the

value of the dollar then as to now? And we were not in a

battle against terrorist at the time. And if you want to go back to 1974 the price of gas doubled in a few week!
true. but did this dumb as country put him in office. how can 140 millions Americans be that stupid
Answer me this. If we invaded Iraq for their oil and we are stealing it why has this not depressed prices?

Water in Oil , yes serious see a mechanic

I checked my oil today in my 98 grand am gt and it was a muddy color, almost like coffee with alot of creamer.?
I agree with doane here. This car has the 3400 ohv v6 if I am not mistaken. These are common for intake gasket failure. Sometimes, it will be head gaskets but usually with these is intake. Its not a job to attempt on your own unless you are very mechanically inclined. When I worked for GM these would run about 7-800 parts and labor but you could have it done cheaper at a local repair shop more than likely, altho most small shops will insist on head gaskets even if that is not the issue. I am agreeing here with intake gaskets tho. Have seen enough fail on these engines. Good luck
Anti freeze! You probably need a head or head gasket or possibly a intake gasket. Yes this is serious, get it in and have it checked out right away before you destroy the engine. ';DO NOT DRIVE';. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if you don't get it in it will get worse. GOOD LUCK!!
Coolant is mixing with the oil. While it is possible it is the head gasket, it is much more likely that it is the lower intake manifold gaskets. Almost every GM 60 degree V6 has this problem sooner or later.
Only one thing that causes a milky color %26amp; thats water. I'd say you have a leaking head gasket. To be sure, change the oil %26amp; filter again %26amp; use Castor Oil GTX 10W30 drive it a few miles then check it again. This will tell you whats up.
bad head gasket and or head

I read today the oil companies say they're not making money?

instead,it goes to the governments via land leases, income taxes and what not. so,who is making any profit from this?I read today the oil companies say they're not making money?
The truth is that big Oil companies are making money on the front side (OIL) but suffering on the backside (Gasoline, petrolium products). Hence the closing of gas stations by Exxon and other smaller players.

Overall though they are still making record profits due to the continual rise in the price of Oil.I read today the oil companies say they're not making money?
While the total dollars that oil companies make in profits is very large, their profits as percent of their gross revenues is not out of line. Exxon-Mobile, for instance, earned 10% profit on their gross revenues.

10% is a reasonable profit. In fact, it is considered by financial analysts to be decent, neither under earning nor high which would be 15% or more.

Even Non-Profit organizations are allowed to earn a profit although not a large one.
That is a joke. The oil companies recently reported the highest profits for any company in the history of the world.
If i was a stockholder I would expect them to make as much money as possible and at all costs. Since I am not I expect them to sell gas at 25 cents per gallon.
haha... It is a joke for everyone

I just know they are very very rich... I do not why they always said they do not make money.
is that why they have reg. over 66 billion dollars so far this year in profits

    it looks like there is

also, there are other reports of oil finds in the Utah/Wyoming/Colorado area.
There are a lot of areas in Alaska that probably contain significant oil reserves but Congress is not allowing the oil companies to check it out.
There is still oil in the US. In fact, I was reading an article about how some closed oil wells are being reopened lately. The high price of oil is making some of these wells profitable to operate again.
YES they are still exploring even more as the technology improves.

Today oil prices hit a new record: $122 per barrel. How could we react?

Today oil prices hit a new record: $122 per barrel. With quickly rising gas prices and other economic issues in the spotlight, many of us are feeling the pinch. But what exactly is causing this change in our economy, and as Christians or Muslims or Hindus, how can you help improve the situation? We are fully religious conscious and caste conscious. How can you get rid of this from your foolish Religious sentiments? All are humans, hence, think positively and do something for this cause towards environmental pollution.Today oil prices hit a new record: $122 per barrel. How could we react?
That's what happens when fascist dictators invade third world countries looking for non existent WMDs. Bush was warned about the consequences of invading Iraq.Today oil prices hit a new record: $122 per barrel. How could we react?
Greed. The price of oil is controlled by comodity speculators. The rise in prices is driven almost entirely by their desire to turn a huge profit, much less so by either supply or demand. The best way to overcome them is to stop using oil.
In times of hardship...do nothing...for God said I will be a crutch for all humanity....Amen

How do i put this type of fire out?How do i put out an oil fire on my stove?I had a pan catch on fire today when the oil started boiling?
you must act fast. Flour is the quickest and most readily available resource. Salt is another option. Immediately smother the fire with either one of these and the fire can be contained and controlled. How do i put out an oil fire on my stove?I had a pan catch on fire today when the oil started boiling?
Flour to extinguish an oil fire? I'd never heard that before. Pretty cool. Report Abuse

I heard that baking soda would do the trick, or a regular fire extinguisher, or a damp towel would all work. I would use a combination of baking soda and damp towel, and if I couldn't get it out quickly, use the extinguisher.
damp a towel or tea towel and smother the pan with it
baking soda, or flour...........no water, it only spreads a grese fire
Throw on Baking soda. It smothers it. Never water! Water splatters it and it spreds!

Or cover with a lid or cookie sheet and smother it.

Fire needs: fuel, air, and heat. Eliminate one, no fire.
fire extinguisher is smart to have but makes a mess. but milk works and baking soda if it is a small fire
Two ways: but for both of them, turn off the heat first.

    1) Smother it by putting the lid over the pan.

    2) Extinguish it using baking soda.

Never, under any circumstances, try to put it out with water -- that will only cause the flaming oil to splash around, igniting new fires.
Cover the pan with a good fitting lid, and turn off the stove. Wait until the pan cools off. Any other method can cause the oil to splatter, and spread the fire.
A fire extinguisher works best (every home is supposed to have one for insurance purposes), but baking soda will work in a pinch. Whatever you do, DO NOT put water on it - that only makes it spread.

I want to invest in oil today whats the best way should i buy options?

how about an option till july or should i just pick a few oil stocksI want to invest in oil today whats the best way should i buy options?
Oil companies, refiners, and drillers don't necessarily track the price of oil. USO is an oil ETF that does a better job (it's at $28.60卤 right now). July 30 calls (UBOGD) are 3.30 bid 3.40 ask. If you think USO will go to $35 by July 17 (expiration date), which is comparable to ~$55 oil, then you could make $480 on 3 call options (cost $1020), or $640 on 100 shares of USO (cost $2860).I want to invest in oil today whats the best way should i buy options?
An option till july can be quite pricey given the long time horizon. Volatilty is at an all time high and you would have to pay a heavy time premium.

I would buy several shorter term calls (april/may expirations) for several stocks to spread out the risk.
Are you sure investing in oil this time will be wise now that the price of oil is going down every day?

  • How much of today's oil prices are based off of speculation rather than true value?

When the price of oil dropped big in fall of '06 through early '07 the media painted the drive up to the previous highs as pure speculation. Is the same in practice in effect now or is this more or less the ';true'; value of oil today? How much of today's oil prices are based off of speculation rather than true value?
    1/6 speculation,

    2/6 margins in distribution channels,

    1/6 local resellers profits

    Just guess.

I would let nature do its work. There is no rush unless medically necessary and then the doctor can make that choice to induce you.Im 40 weeks Should i take Castor Oil today like i did last week?
You shouldn't have taken it the first time. It can be dangerous. And just because it was fine the first time doesn't mean it will be the second time. If you need to be induced it should be under medical supervision in case of any complications that come with being induced.
i would just wait and let them induce you, it is not that much longer. Spend the rest of you time till then making sure you have everything ready for baby and that you have everything packed for the hospital.
    No No No!!!! Very dangerous!
Just wait till sunday... castor oil isn't so pleasant...

How can the world economy thrive with today's oil prices?

If oil climbs much higher, I cannot see how we could avoid a nasty episode of ';stagflation';. Speculators seem to be one of the few entities making money from this global funk! As energy costs climb, inflation takes off, but without any real value being added and subsequently job loss occurs. Then a vicious downward spiral plagues world economies! Supply and demand forces seem to be tainted by usurious investing and the normal cyclical nature of business and economics seems to be off track! Is this an incorrect analysis? How can the world economy thrive with today's oil prices?
Perhaps too much investment in cars and factories is what brought on the shortage of oil and the high oil prices.

Major economies such as China, India, and USA have been growing non-stop for a good number of years now. And the rate of growth was quite high. So high that the world production of oil couldn't keep up. And now this rate of economic growth can't continue any more.

Perhaps if more money was invested in the production of oil and not so much in the production of cars and factories. Then economic growth would've been more sustainable. And we wouldn't have the present high oil prices. How can the world economy thrive with today's oil prices?
If a modern economy adopts a nuclear energy program for electrical power generation, there should never be a long term problem. It is really the most rational solution to freeing up resources for use in motor fuel consumption.

Yes, the Dollar and Oil Prices were doing as good as they had been during the entire history of the World during Bush's 8 years.

    Yes.

Change your oil with a ';high mileage'; engine oil. You have over 200k on it and you want to put some good quality engine oil in it. Valvoline Max Life engine oil has additives in the oil that help condition the engine oil seals and helps prevent oil leaks/consumption. Use 5w30. You will need to buy 5 qts. Your truck only holds 4.5 qts however.I got a 92 toyota 22RE pickup, with 205,000 miles and was gonna change the oil today. any suggestions?
Good idea, just change it and make a habit to change oil and filter every 4000 miles. Check with the shopkeeper which oil will be suitable for your vehicle.
don't run it with out oil change 3 or 4000 miles last you 4 ever

Look for that name in the appropriate section of the commodities page of most newspapers.

Look up meaning of ';cif'; and ';fob';.

The current production problems were not caused by Bill Clinton or the U.S. government and the delivery system companies CEOs are not to blame.

This is a problem of worldwide Wahhabi Muslim hatred for western civilization home grown in Saudi Arabia, Osama Bin Laden's home country.

Saudi Arabia (where it costs fifty cents to produce a barrel of oil, home to the 9/11 terrorists) dominates OPEC and OPEC pricing arrangements and is the home of The Muslim Brotherhood and Wahhabi Muslim extremism.

What the Saudi politico-religious thought couldn't do by planes flying into buildings they are doing by strangling the economic life out of western countries addicted to Saudi (OPEC) oil.

OPEC Oil will be $200.00 USD/bbl by the end of 2008 and $300.00 USD/bbl by the end of 2009.

World Population increased by 2.5 Billion over the 33 years from 1973 to 2006 while OPEC oil production has remained constant.

This is not a market driven problem...it is an artificial pricing problem created by our mortal enemies in the Wahhabi Muslim countries.
Contrary to reactionery and polemic arguments, drilling in ANWAR would only comprise 5% of American consumption of oil over a 15 - 25 year period, which is an estimate of how much oil reserves are contained there.

Drill in ANWAR or not drill in ANWAR, it is not much of an answer regarding usage, or pricing, of oil in the marketplace, my friend.
Yes he is/was like most that refuse to do the ';right thing'; regarding our America. Sadly to say, it is OUR POLITICIANS who IF they had listened way back in the l970's, we might not be in this predicament.

I do NOT see things changing with today's Politicians. Same old CRAP, as they ';field'; their investigations, ';plan'; on suing OPEC?????, and blame everyone besides themselves. It is time for ';we the people'; to WAKE UP and actually VOTE OUT these delirious finger pointing Politicians. It seems our Politicians make matters WORSE. They will make this dilemma worse by doing nothing, and trying to pass a ';cap and trade';?? These Politicians are just unbelievable, and in my opinion are of ZERO USE to what ails this Nation.
The oil concerns would not drop the price here, but rather keep it at world spot oil prices. You will not see a reduction in price, regardless how much we drill. That is because we have allowed our oil industry to be driven by profit.

Here is an idea who's time has come:

I believe the oil companies need to be nationalized and the profits go back to the people in the form of lower taxes.Same with our communications systems.

Where I live in China as a transplanted American, both are nationalized and a gallon of gas costs about a buck less, and my cell phone bill is obscenely little. About $15 a month and I use it extensively.

Plus, I pay zero sales tax, and tax on a home is very small to non existent, plus I have no income tax, despite that I make considerably more then the average person.

There is a lot of revenue to be made off of both which gives the people more disposable income. A win for the government, a win for the people, a win for our economy. It will just pizzzz off the fat cats, one that some love to support, yet they don't give a rats behind about their supporters.

What I fail to understand, people will fight tooth and nail to support the oil companies while continuing to pay high energy prices (at a profit that lines the pocket of the fat cat, who doesn't give one hoot about them.) and pay high taxes to boot. Kind of like, shooting themselves in the head just to prove they can. Makes no sense whatsoever.

    Think about it.

ANWR doesnt have enough oil to effect a change in US prices, either way most all oil taken from Alaska is under contract to be sold to Japan

It is easy to blame people for problems, however it still doesn't solve this energy crisis that we have, and will continue to have because there is no easy solution. If I was you I would enjoy the 4 dollar a gallon gas while it lasts, because I don't think it is going to get any better(even if we drill in ANWR.)

When Democats left gas price was 99 cents, What were Republicans doing since last 8 years ?
The more poor and needy people the liberals can make, the more they can invoke envy. if they invoke enough envy, they can maybe nationalize the oil companies. That's they prize they really want.
Remember when Republicans cut out tax cuts for research for alternative fuels THIS YEAR? I wonder why they did that.

Maybe it's time to stop kowtowing to the oil companies for a change.
Clinton hasn't been president for almost 8 years, idiot. You must be talking about the results of a six year complete Republican rule.
Because it wouldn't make much difference. Riddle me THIS, Batman, why did Jeb Bush stop any possible drilling off the Florida coast?
Well I can not speak about why Bill Clinton did anything, I can only speak about President Bush's hard fought battle with the democrats on drilling in ANWAR and other US locations and they keep fighting my every attempt to bring cheaper oil to the United States citizens for whom he was duly elected to represent. The President is thoroughly disappointed with the democrats conduct of this 110th congress.
He vetoed it because of pressure from environmentalists and pressure from his party.

I heard a democrat say yesterday that they don't want to drill because it is not a permanent solution and will only drop oil prices by 50 cents. 50 cents!!! Thats a lot when you're paying 4 or 5 bucks. What an out of touch elitist.
Democrats take money from interested parties. Environmentalists give. Clinton gives back. Funny how that works.
democrats want to keep this country weak and dependent. Go back and see what Carter did as well to seal our current fate.

Use any brand you want as long as it meets your car manufactures recommendation ie 5w-30, API SG, etc. Buy the cheapest. For oil to meet an SG, etc. standard, It has to be subjected to many ASTM oil tests pour point, smoke point, iodine number drop test, detergent concentration, etc. Most multi-weight oils have 20% viscosity improvers. Save your money. The additives are made by three or four companies and the oil probably all comes from the same well . Synthictic oils are a different story.Anyone use Kendall oil today. Comrade Obama is an elitist, commie twit who hates the free market and loves govt control of everything.Obama said alternate energy is limitless; is he speaking about theories as nothing works as good as oil today?
Well first you have to understand why there isn't any other fuel sources around. Big oil, car manufacturers and other interest groups have been in working together to keep oil the main fuel source for almost since engines have existed.

They invented carborators and engines back in the day that could get well over 100 miles to the gallon. they were never introduced into the marked because big oil bought out the patents/ ';forced'; the inventors to not produce them.

solar cells have been in efficient untill recently. back in the day they only produced 20%ish of what they absorbed. boeing invented one that can get up to 50% of the energy. plus i read in popular science they they now have solar cell paint in a spray paint can, kind of wierd but im sure its on the internet somewhere.

The name who originaly invent the Water powered car. yes it did exist. mysteriously died after several mysterious threats. thats on you tube too.

wave and wind powered generators are on the riase. but I'm not sure if your electricity bill will ever go down. they still have to pay for the technology(at least in california). Deregulation of power companys has absolutely killed californians.

and they have invented a over unity engine that produces something like 4 times the energy taken to run it. Im not sure about this one but its on you tube. look up the surge free energy car, over unity motors, perpetual motion.

yeah big oil has serious high jacked the direction of the 20th/ beginning of the 21th century. But soon people will get smart and free themselves from oil. Or **** will hit the fan and more wars will go on about absolutley outdated fuel sources....

    cccoooouuuiraqwaruuuggghhhhh.
There is some alternative energy. Where I live there are farms that erected wind mills instead of growing crops. The electric utility company buys back all excess power that is generated that the farms doesn't utilize.

We do need much more research on other sources of energy though.
Alternative energy is limitless. Widen your focus and do some serious research.

I have 20k miles on my car. They said it should be done at 12k miles. These places are always trying to upsell, so I'm leery of doing anything, but is this a necessary job? What will happen to my car if I keep saying I'm not interested and avoid doing it. Please advise. Thanks.I went for an oil change today and they said I should have a fuel injection and emission. Is this necessary?
Most cars go for well over 100k miles without fuel injector service and still get decent gas mileage. Not having this service done will not harm your vehicle and I would not do it unless it has been identified that the fuel injectors are not working properly.

    Examples:

96 Saturn 224k miles injectors never serviced 33mpg

98 Malibu 316k miles injectors never serviced 24mpg

91 Geo 297k miles injectors never serviced 30mpg (this was before i sold it 5 years ago)I went for an oil change today and they said I should have a fuel injection and emission. Is this necessary?
I agree with the first post. I have solved many engine performance problems with pressurized fuel injection cleanings at the rails. I performed this service yesterday on a misfiring 03 Ford Explorer Sport Trac and she said the power is back and the misfiring is gone. This vehicle had 116K miles though and that was the first time the service was performed.

Although, I think 20K miles is a bit soon to have this service performed. I guess it is better than waiting until it becomes a problem. Toyota, Mercedes, Nissan and few others recommend and perform them at certain service intervals.

It also depends on how the car is driven. A person that lives on the highway may not ever experience a problem, but a stop and go or around the corner to the store use may experience problems. Some get away with not performing alot of services, but many are no so fortunate.
Well, it's a toss up. Yes, they are trying to get another sell, but if you do that on a regular basis, you fuel system won't get gummed up as easily. Now, this doesn't mean not replacing the fuel filter or anything like that, but it is a better way to help keep injectors clean. It would also depend on how much it is. If it's like 25 or 30 bucks and they actually connect a device to your engine, go for it. If they just dump a bottle of fuel additive in there, don't.

What will happen to your car is the deposits in your engine will build up, just like any bottle of cleaner will tell you. You don't clean this crap off, your fuel mileage will start to suck. If it were me, I would buy a bottle of Sea Foam, found at any NAPA or any other large chain store, and add that. Do that for the first couple of tanks of gas.
This is really important mate .. i recently had the same problem .. don't know whether to leave it for a fuel injection and oil change and all those things or not .. finally i went with it .. man i was really happy after that .. my car was really smooth after that .. was really happy with the performance .. i suggest that u leave it ..
It helps but you don't need to do it as often as they want you to.

About every 3 years or 36k miles is all you need. You could even strech this to 60k miles and be fine. Many people never have this done and don't have any problems.

As far as it saving you gas, yes it can. But you won't save enough to pay for the service so you won't come out ahead.
What KIND of car is this???? If you are using a ';top tier'; fuel, you shouldn't need this. (read about on web.) THe best thing to do is to use ONLY a synthetic oil. It reduces emissions and improves power and prolongs engine life, since it cleans while you drive and prevents sludge formation. Good luck!!
josh has it right ! those garages are always trying to get all the money off of you they can. as long as you keep the injectors clean you don,t need their services. just throw a bottle of good injector cleaner in your tank about a couple of months and you will be fine.
the owners manual says when and what to have serviced , i would not get any service unless it specifies it in the manual.

your car is probably in fine shape with 20,000 miles on it and i doubt you 'have' to have the service
it not really nessasary, if anything just go to an auto parts store and get fuel injector cleaner, but you dont need it. it may help the car run a little bit better, but its not worth the money
Normally you do not need any extra services that are not listed in the manufacturer's service manual.
Fuel injection services help a lot! Get it done to keep up the gas mileage.

  • How does a small investor make money on the current low oil prices today on a long term basis ?

If you want to leverage low oil price for long-term basis, I'd suggest allocating 5% of your total investment portfolio to commodities. Instead of buying just oil, I'd suggest investing in a commodity index fund, or ETF. See the link below for further detail. How does a small investor make money on the current low oil prices today on a long term basis ?
he does not TOUCH commodities but instead, invests, local to him,

with a new small start-up; where he can have some control over the

    company and return.

Can you name the green friendly fuel(s) which are available to replace oil today?

Be careful of electricity it is often generated from oil.Can you name the green friendly fuel(s) which are available to replace oil today?
Nope as there are none^!!Can you name the green friendly fuel(s) which are available to replace oil today?
Considering that there are no storage facilities...no distribution systems...no mass infrastructure...

None of it matters, what is green is not always the best option, if there is no way to deliver it to the public economically ( at a low cost, no wait time, and a manner of convenience it is all best left on the drawing board or file 13) on every street corner as we do now with fuel...

Electricity is not ready to be delivered to the masses; there is no where to charge the electric vehicle (without costing the Business owner,or friend or family member) other then at home...so that is not a viable option...
Nuclear energy... And in the future, cold fusion...

You could cover every roof with solar panels and every open field with windmills and it would still not generate enough electricy to run our economic engine without oil or nuclear. And if we start using biofuels in mass, you will create a food shortage throughout the world.
I suppose you could consider food a fuel if you walk everywhere. But then agriculture destroys wildlife and then there is methane from livestock. So the answer would be a big NO.

Wind and solar are only good for the middle school science fair. Neither will ever be a viable source of energy for modern society.
Nuclear power is the only replacement that makes any sense. We will always have petroleum for Lubrication uses. If anyone thinks wind and solar will power our homes, factories, and those little toy cars, they live in a fantasy world.
Nuclear Electricity. Some transportation. Industrial ovens and Kilns, home heating, and many applications with large volume consumption.
Biodiesel, wind power, solar power %26amp; corn.
Wind and solar will eventually replace oil. Today, they are not economical substitutes.
Let me think real hard on this one like Obama. um um um mmm mmm uh uh uh da da da

Can't think of one. But we need clean energy to create jobs!!!!

Would the USA leave Iraq tomorrow if the oil disappeared today?

Everyone knows that the USA invaded Iraq ONLY because of its oil, make no mistake about it, Saddam was just a pretext for the invasion.

What do you have to say to that?

Thanks.Would the USA leave Iraq tomorrow if the oil disappeared today?
The war is about oil, it is also orchestrated to destroy the formidable might of the last standing patriarchal Godly nations. America鈥檚 invasion of the East towards its destruction and for the benefit of robbing resources and assets is evil in the extreme. The sacrifice of wealth and assets has not in any appeased the gluttonous and insatiable western demagogue who now willfully and openly conspires to further entrench his stand and amass greater wealth by destroying and massacring more lives and civilizations. Indeed where is God? the Eastern innocents may be lamenting 鈥? ?Would the USA leave Iraq tomorrow if the oil disappeared today?
Power, Courage and Fortitude to you JL....God Bless. Report Abuse

Umm probably. There would be no point in wasting precious resources to hang onto that hostile region halfway around the globe.

I think that oil was not quite the ONLY reason. The Republican party wants to keep us at war because for some reason most Americans think Republicans are better at foreign policy. Why? I don't know, but they do. So they want to keep us in perpetual war as a way to gain political capital for themselves. However I think that plan is beginning to fail too because people are tired of that war and especially if Obama keeps up his attack on their foreign policies then there will be no reason to continue the war.
not tomorrow, it would take us about a month to pack up all our stuff and get the hell outa dodge.

    edit

we dont get the oil, you fools, that was never the plan. we opened up the iraqi fields so that exxon, halliburton and the rest could drill it, pump it, transport it and sell it to india and china. they make a bundle doing this. plus they get US military protection for their work sites, equiptment and everything else. the tankers even get an escort out of the persian gulf courtesy of an aircraft carrier and it's battlegroup.
Only if all the oil in the middle east disappeared, Bush still wants the military bases.

    Edit.

Justin... We never got the chance to drill new oil in Iraq because of the insurgency. I am amazed that even people who think if our oil companies drill off shore it would solve out oil problem but do not see how we would benefit if we had the rights to drill in Iraq,. Bush did not want to steal the oil, he wanted drilling rights for US companies.
Not only would they leave they wouldn't give them a dime to rebuild the they destroyed. I love it when conservatives deny that we didn't go to war for oil, but to liberate the Iraqi people, but there are a lot of other countries that are ruled by dictators and the US isn't invading them.
Unfortunately your argument has been exhausted and proven wrong. The oil in Iraq has made no difference here, good or bad. So you guys can't use oil as an excuse anymore.

So, to answer the question, I will hafta say no.
I agree completely, that it was just a war for oil, and not caring for the Iraqi people. If the oil disappears the US would beat a hasty retreat
If the oil disappeared today, they would have been gone today with it.
    Yes.

    Regards.
    Now you see it,

    Oops,

    Now you don't.

    He he he heheheheheheh
They are the ones that are making the oil to disappear, just like magic.
I say you haven't a clue what your talking about....we NEVER took the oil.....Most goes to the far east and europe...NONE comes here

Who here did not use some form of oil today?

Btw if you are reading this, more than likely you are using a computer that has a fan, and a hard drive( both use oil for lubrication). You also would have to be naked, as most clothes are made from machines that require oil.

So where are ya, and how did you not use some form of oil to answer this?Who here did not use some form of oil today?
love the question. and your absolutely right, its impossible to not use oil unless your a nudist who lives in the jungle. just goes to show we need to exploit our own sources of oil rather than relying on erratic middle eastern sources.Who here did not use some form of oil today?
great question. We are ALL hooked
also, plastic comes from oil. so if you, say, live in a house, use a telephone, eat packaged food, type on a keyboard... well, there ya go
That's an obvious fact...however... it does not negate the need to explore alternative forms of energy. Oil is not renewable.
I've attempted to limit my consumption of petroleum by switching to whale oil for as many applications as is possible, yet Liberals still seem to be angry with me, especially when I harpoon a Right Whale...
i use my ';corn squeezins'; for lubricating!!!
