Made a STUPID mistake adding oil today?

I dont know how often this happens to other people but... i left the oil cap open while i started the engine only for about 20 seconds and hit the gas a little... some oil squirted out into the engine but i cleaned most of it out, oil level still good, anything else i should know? I feel really stupid now.Made a STUPID mistake adding oil today?
No worries. Clean up the mess, put the cap back on, and learn from it. We all do something dumb once in a while.Made a STUPID mistake adding oil today?
Happens ALL the time! don't worry about it !

2 things-

#1- Go get a couple cans of ';Gunk';(or another brand) Engine degreaser, go to the local self-serve car wash. Let the car cool down some(with hood open makes this quicker!), before coating the hood(UNDERSIDE ONLY !-most of these WILL harm paint!-You could spray front of car off, hood closed, to reduce overspray damage) and engine compartment with it, let sit recommended time, wash off!

This IS pretty messy!!

#2 Your car is gonna burn that oil off, AND SMOKE/SMELL while doing it 'till you wash it off, or it's all burned.- As far as your engine goes, Not to worry !-BUT NEVER let it run/drive it, like that!(can catch fire, or ruin engine)
At worst, you'll leave a trail of smoke for a few days while the oil runs down onto the manifold and burns off.

This is NOT the stupidest oil story I've come across.

At a station one time, this guy stopped me to ask me how to check his oil. I showed him. He was a quart low. I told him what to buy and went on in to pay for my gas and get a pack of smokes without thinking much else about it. When I come out, there he was, trying to pour oil into the dipstick tube.
you should be good, the main thing you'll probably notice is that you'll smell the oil when the car heats up and that oil starts to burn off. If you can, wash it off somehow to prevent that smell cause it can be pretty strong. I remember oil got spilt in my engine bay once and for like 100 miles it was burning off and i had a small amount of smoke coming out of the engine bay...it was kinda scary lol
Don't feel silly. I have a shop and you would not beleave how many cars come in with things like an oil cap or a break cover or even the oil dip stick sitting on top of the engine.

It happons all the time.

If the oil level is still ok and you cleaned the oil off you are ok.

Dont worry.
It won't hurt anything as long as the level is good. Make sure you check oil level when it's hot. An some spilt oil might burn and you'll smell it when you drive the next couple times. You could cover the alternator and hose down everything good and wash as much of it off as you can.
after working in a lube shop for many years, i will tell you that you are not the first person to do that, i have done it a couple of times.just wipe it up the best that you can. the engine might smoke a little so be prepared. if oil spilled in a hot enough area, you could have a fire problem. wash it down with some detergent. just avoid getting any sensors too wet.
Everything will be fine. You may smell oil burning when the engine gets hot, but it wont last long and after a few days you wont smell it anymore.
at least you didn't leave the gas nozzle in the opening for where you put in the gas and drive off.
Just peek inside to make sure nothing like a leaf or any dirt fell inside. Otherwise you are fine.
It's more common than you think, lol.

No big deal really.
No big deal, drive on
yes , dont do that any more .
call a car repair shop. DOnt drive your self it mite blow up.
