Which source of alternative energy is ready to go now and will replace our need for oil today?

If your answer is ';none'; what are we going to do in the interim?

Do we really want our enemies in charge of our energy supply?Which source of alternative energy is ready to go now and will replace our need for oil today?
Nuclear is proven technology with a long life span and readily available.Which source of alternative energy is ready to go now and will replace our need for oil today?
None.

Nuclear has a 15 year lead time to construct new reactors.

Biofuel is inefficient, increases food prices, and causes starvation.

Hydro are insufficient for needs.

Wind is insufficient and not always available. Usable only to supplement other power.

Solar inefficient and available only when and where the sun shines.

Hydrogen is not an alternative fuel. It requires electrical power to make hydrogen; Very inefficient.

Best strategy: Start constructing nuclear plants. Increase research on solar. Require solar hot water heating wherever feasible. Kill all biofuel programs that use land that can be used for food. Invest in more efficient transportation.
As soon as the oil lobbyists and car manufacturers who have a stranglehold on new technologies let go, we will have cars with better gas mileage, new kinds of cars with electric or hydrogen fuel cells, etc. The Republicans have aided and abetted these folks and are the first to scream about drilling in ANWR, etc. How about we let go of the rabid partisanship and compromise? We might actually get something done.

the ';cutsie'; alternative energies are nice to think about, but do not provide enough power to make a significant difference;

go ahead and do them, (with stipulation that bio fuels seem foolsih unless the raw matter would be otherwise a waste product), it will help but not enough to make a difference
Nuclear power works. Period.

We should be driving electric cars.

We should be installing better public transportation in all cities. Buses that run on hydrogen/electricity will work for smaller towns and such, but monorails/subways will be needed in all major cities.
We don't have one ready. Democrats, liberals and environuts have blocked every single type of alternative energy that has been proposed since the oil embargo of the early 70s.
No real alternative is currently available. The US could allow more offshore drilling, besides encouraging more fuel efficient vehicles.
For gasoline, there has been an algae developed than can create 10,000 gallons of oil per acre right here at home.
THE ONE OF BUSHWHACKED. we HAVE BEEN chainIED. , see the movie Syrianna, its an eye opener
Nuclear.
Oil.
